Former vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University’s Central Student Parliament (Daksu) Nurul Haque Nur has said that the government is suffering from a phobia of losing power.
He said workers, teachers, and lawyers were attacked in the dark of night in the month of victory when the so-called government of the liberation war was in power. It is a shameful event for independence in 49 years.
The government does not want to listen to anyone. They are suffering from a phobia of losing power. If united, this dictatorship will not last.
Nurul Haque said this at a protest rally and human chain in front of the National Press Club in the capital at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday.
The rally was organized by the Student-Youth-Workers’ Rights Council in front of the National Press Club in protest of the attack on teachers and workers in the dark of night. The attack is reminiscent of the night of March 25, when the Pakistani aggressors attacked.
When someone comes to the streets with demand, the government thinks, realizing this, the mattress is shaken. In this panic, the government wants to suppress the voice of the people.
Kalakanun wants to silence the voice of the newspaper.
This is how the government wants to make Bangladesh a dictatorial state.
In the incident of breaking the sculpture of Bangabandhu, Nurul Haque said, the government party and the scholars have come to a confrontation with the sculpture.
This is an omen for the country.
This sculpture has been vandalized in a planned manner to destroy the peace and order of society. Islamophobia is spreading in society.
The ruling party Awami League, Juba League, and Chhatra League are spreading this hatred.
While in power, they are spreading religious hatred, creating a backdrop of religious violence. He said those who broke the sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia should be brought to justice. The incident should be investigated by the judiciary.
Besides, the indiscriminate attack on the workers must also be brought to justice.
Rashed Khan, the acting convener of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, said, “Students and youth cannot be suppressed by lawsuits.”
Bangabandhu taught how to stand by the oppressed people.
Let them hold meetings, let them talk. The constitution has given us political rights. ‘
- Another joint convener, Abu Hanif, said that in an independent country, citizens have the right to demand and protest.
But the police are attacking. These should not be repeated.
The game is being played with the rights of the people.
Joint convener Farooq Hasan said it was issued two days ago and permission had to be sought before the rally. Teachers and workers in the early hours of the attacks on the police force.
People will build position and mass resistance against those who have done these things.
- Mashiur Rahman, joint convener of Bangladesh Students ‘Rights Council, Arif Hossain, member secretary of workers’ rights, and Abdur Rahman, labor leader addressed the rally.

The insurance policy will be sold by the branches of the bank.
For this, the customers do not have to go to the insurance company, they just have to go to the bank branch. In other words, the bank will sell bank products to its own customers, it will also sell insurance products.
The government has taken such an initiative to remove the negative attitude of the people towards insurance.
For that, the government is moving forward with a new concept called bancassurance.
Insurance services will be available at the bank
If the initiative is implemented, the insurance sector will expand.
But in the absence of policy, the potential of this new financial product is not working.
However, there are many examples of the development of the insurance sector through the banking sector in the developed world. Even neighboring India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have succeeded.
Despite having 60 banks and 6 insurance companies, Bangladesh is lagging behind in this regard.
The Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has finally drafted a policy on bancassurance.
Bangladesh Bank has also agreed in this regard.
The IDRA has sent the draft to all private companies, including two government agencies, for feedback.
Bancassurance is a French word.
Bancassurance is the method of selling insurance products through banks. France in the 1970s
And it was first introduced in Spain. In most European countries, life insurance is sold through banks.
It is also gaining popularity in Asian countries.
- Insurance insiders say the introduction of bancassurance will reduce the cost of collecting premiums for insurance companies.
Banks will be able to sell insurance products at no extra cost.
As consumers have more confidence in the bank than in insurance, their interest in buying insurance policies under bancassurance will also increase.
According to the Bangladesh Bank, the total number of branches of the bank in the country is now more than 10 thousand. And a World Bank account for 2017 says that the number of bank account holders in the country is about 90 million.
However, IDRA could not provide information as there has been good research on bancassurance in the country.
However, an article by Mohammad Z Mamun, a teacher at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University, on bancassurance, shows that banks in countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands sell insurance products as well as their own.
- The article says that there is a huge potential for bancassurance in the near future.
Since the bank has a large customer base, they can sell insurance products among their own customers.
Banks through which corporate customers and companies are paid may initially be the first to sell insurance products.
- IDRA chairman Mosharraf Hossain told Prothom Alo, “Bancassurance is a matter of time.
This will not only benefit the banks and insurance companies, but also the customers. Guardian Life Insurance has also started work on a trial basis.
Hopefully, the growth of bancassurance in India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka is good.
Since the draft policy has been prepared, we hope it will be finalized soon. The draft says that the banks and financial institutions that directly and indirectly control Bangladesh Bank can become agents of bancassurance.
For that, they have to sign contracts with insurance companies.
Further, no bancassurance agent can be associated with more than three life or general insurance companies.
For this, the insurance company has to get the approval of IDRA.
And the bancassurance agent has to get the approval of Bangladesh Bank.
A 2016 survey by the Foundation for the Advancement of Life and Insurance Around the World (FALIA) paints a picture of the bancassurance market in many countries.
Of the 13 countries, 89 percent of the policies sold through banks are in Turkey, compared to 20.6 percent in India.
Sheikh Kabir Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Insurance Association, told Prothom Alo, We want bancassurance to be introduced across the country.
I believe this will move the entire insurance sector.
The bank will also have a good income.

Ward-30 ward councilor (dismissed) Mohammad Irfan Selim, son of Dhaka-6 MP Haji Selim and his bodyguard Md. RAB has filed four separate cases against Zahid under the Narcotics and Arms Act.
The RAB filed the four cases at the Chawkbazar police station on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Irfan set up a Selim Wireless Network Center to control extortion, political domination, and occupation in the old Dhaka area.
Irfan set up a control room like a law enforcement force on the roof of the Medina Ashiq Tower on Chawk Bazar’s Chawk Circular Road, a short distance from Chan Sardar Dada’s house in Old Dhaka.
The control room had a VHF (very high frequency) device with a sophisticated networking system.
Waitaki base station was set up in the Medina Ashik Tower and in his own room on the fourth floor of the house. Irfan and his associates used to communicate in an area of four square kilometers through walkie-talkies.
Thirty-six walkie-talkies were used for him and members of the force to discuss all forms of extortion, political hegemony, occupation, and terrorist activities.
That’s why Irfan spells like law enforcement (Wakitki base station)
- According to RAB, Irfan Selim set up the wireless networking system at his home in Old Dhaka two-three years ago to communicate with his own forces.
Before the last councilor election, Medina installed a VHF device and a high-powered antenna in Irfan’s private office on the 17th floor of the Ashiq Tower. Irfan brought these devices to the country illegally from abroad. The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) did not have any approval or license to use the black walkie-talkie set via the VHF device. Irfan and his cadres were illegally using Wakitki to dominate and extort money.
According to RAB sources, the law enforcement could not identify the communication on Irfan’s own Wallace Wakitki network.
Irfan used this illegal opportunity to control the empire of misdeeds and extortion. For this, Ifran formed a cadre force.
Everyone had illegal weapons. Through this, he used to establish fear among the people of old Dhaka.
For this, Irfan has a torture cell on the top floor of Medina Ashiq Tower on Chalk Circular Road.
Those who went against his views were brought to the torture cell and tortured and intimidated.
Irfan had 12 bodyguards.
Among them, Jahidul Islam was a terror of Chawkbazar.
There are also reports that the bodyguards had illegal weapons with them.
RAB officials also said that there are 35 more paid cadres for the control of the dominant empire and for the security of Haji Selim’s family.
Several RAB officials told the media that Irfan used to drink alcohol every night and roam the Chawkbazar area with his two foreign dogs and bodyguards.
In old Dhaka, there was a panic in their movement but no one said anything for fear.
RAB has got some information and evidence about the occupation of different lands in old Dhaka.
Haji Selim and his sons used their paid cadres as well as local police to occupy any land in old Dhaka.
They also gave a gift to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chawkbazar Police Station to be present at the spot and assist in their occupation.
Lt. Col. Ashiq Billah, director of RAB’s legal and media wing, said, “Irfan Selim illegally set up the VHF Wakitki base station above his home and his private office at his own expense to carry out extortion and terrorist activities and domination in the area.”
He said a total of four cases have been filed against Irfan’s house under the Arms and Narcotics Act and two against bodyguard Zahid under the same Act.
A total of seven people, including Irfan Selim, his bodyguard Zahidul Islam, driver Mizanur Rahman, Medina Group protocol officer AB Siddique Dipu and three others, filed a case against him for allegedly beating and threatening a naval officer in Dhanmondi on the evening of October 25.
Police arrested Haji Selim’s driver Mizanur that night. The next day, at noon on October 26, RAB arrested Irfan in a raid at Chan Sardar Dada’s house in Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar on the basis of specific allegations.
During the operation, two illegal weapons, alcohol, beer, 36 Wakitki, and Wakifki base stations with VAEF devices were seized.
Irfan was then sentenced to 18 months in prison by a RAB mobile court for drunkenness and illegal possession of a walkie-talkie.
His bodyguard, Jahidul, was sentenced to six months in prison for using Wakitki illegally.
